Spicy Garlic Beef Croquettes

Ingredients
  

For the filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes Adjust for spice preference
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mashed potatoes Can use leftover mashed potatoes

For the coating and frying

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • oil for deep frying

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped onion and minced garlic until they are fragrant and the onions are translucent.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet along with chili flakes, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and soy sauce. Stir and cook until the beef is browned.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped parsley and mashed potatoes. Let the mixture cool.
  • Once cooled, shape the beef mixture into oval-shaped croquettes.

Breading

  • Set up a dredging station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs.
  • Roll each croquette in flour, dip it in egg, then coat it with breadcrumbs.

Frying

  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the croquettes in batches until they are golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels.

Notes

These croquettes are best served warm, right out of the fryer. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
