Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces Thighs add more flavor due to higher fat content.
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch (or all-purpose flour) For coating.
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour For coating.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg For the batter.
  • 1/4 cup water To whisk with the egg.
  • Vegetable oil For frying.

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger

For Garnish

  • Sesame seeds For garnish.
  • Chopped green onions For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper together.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg and water until combined. Dip each chicken piece in the egg mixture, then coat it evenly with the flour mixture.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pan over medium-high heat.
  • Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the cooked chicken and drain it on paper towels.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Cook this mixture over medium heat until it thickens slightly.
  • Add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss to coat all the pieces evenly.

Serving

  • Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

For extra crispiness, let the coated chicken pieces rest for 10 minutes before frying. Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey according to your taste. For a spicier kick, add a dash of red chili flakes or Sriracha to the sauce.
