Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour an 8-inch square baking dish, or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Mixing and Baking

  • Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the dessert to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, don't overmix the batter. You can customize the recipe by adding chopped nuts or different flavor extracts.
