Ingredients
  

For the cookie dough

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Must be at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup walnut pieces Optional, can be replaced or omitted

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until well combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.

Baking

  • Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Notes

These cookies are best served warm. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For softer cookies, layer between sheets of parchment paper.
