General Tso's Chicken

Ingredients
  

Chicken Coating

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup cornstarch For coating the chicken
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup oil, for frying Use enough oil for deep frying

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust to taste

Garnish

  • 2 stalks green onions, chopped For garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a bowl, coat the chicken pieces in cornstarch.
  • Dip the chicken in the beaten eggs.

Cooking

  • In a large pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
  • Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  • In a separate bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  • In the same pan, add the sauce mixture, bring to a simmer, then add the fried chicken back to the pan.
  • Stir to coat the chicken in the sauce.

Serving

  • Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in a pan over medium heat, adding a splash of water to prevent drying out. Adjust spice level according to preference.
