Crostini are delightful Italian appetizers made from toasted bread, perfect for holding a variety of toppings.

  • 1 piece crusty baguette thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1-3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil adjust based on the number of crostini you’re making
  • 1 clove garlic halved, for rubbing (optional)

Preparation

  • Slice the crusty baguette into small (0.5 cm thick) or large (1 cm thick) pieces diagonally.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 160°C (325°F) for small crostini or 180°C (350°F) for large crostini.
  • Brush olive oil lightly on one side of the bread, and sprinkle a bit of salt. Flip and repeat on the other side.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, turning halfway, or until fully crispy.
  • If desired, rub the toasted bread lightly on one side with the cut face of garlic.

Notes

Crostini are best enjoyed fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. To maintain crispness, avoid moisture.
