  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened but not melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Chocolate Components

  • 2 cups chocolate chips Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and both sugars until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated.
  • Add the vanilla extract and stir until combined.
  • In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in hot water, then add this to the batter along with the salt.
  • Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour until the dough is well combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips, mixing them evenly throughout the dough.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For chewier cookies, try chilling the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze them for up to three months.
