Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic (about 1 large garlic clove)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder (or substitute with garlic powder)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oil (olive oil recommended, any oil will work)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • to taste Black pepper

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pieces steaks (economical cuts recommended)

Instructions

Preparation of Marinade

  • In a bowl, mix together the Dijon mustard, minced garlic, and onion powder.
  • Add the soy sauce, oil, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, and black pepper. Stir everything well until combined.

Marinate the Beef

  • Place the steaks in a ziplock bag and pour in the marinade.
  • Seal the bag and ensure the steaks are well coated. Marinade in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours for the best flavor.

Cooking the Steaks

  • Before cooking, remove the steaks from the fridge about 30 minutes prior to let them come to room temperature.
  • Brush BBQ grills with oil and heat them on high or heat a heavy-based skillet until hot.
  • Place the steaks on the grill or skillet and cook for about 2 minutes on one side, then turn and cook the other side for another 2 minutes for medium-rare doneness.

Resting and Serving

  • Once cooked, remove the steaks from the skillet and place them on a warm plate. Cover loosely with foil and let them rest for about 5 minutes.
  • Serve the marinated steaks hot, sliced against the grain.

Notes

Use high-quality olive oil for better flavor. Allow the steak to rest after cooking for juicier results. You can experiment with different herbs or spices to customize the marinade.
