Ingredients:

  • 1 (9-inch) pie crust, baked
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 3⁄4 cup white sugar
  • 1⁄3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 bananas

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Custard:
    • In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
    • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
    • Boil and stir for one minute. Remove from heat.
    • In a small bowl, place the slightly beaten egg yolks. Gradually whisk in about 1 cup of the hot custard mixture.
    • Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, stirring constantly.
    • Return to a gentle boil and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat.
    • Stir in butter and vanilla. Allow the custard to cool slightly.
  2. Assemble the Pie:
    • Slice the ripe bananas and arrange them evenly over the pre-baked pie crust.
    • Pour the warm custard over the bananas, spreading it evenly.
    • Chill the pie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until set.
  3. Serve:
    • Once chilled, slice and serve the Old Fashioned Banana Cream Pie. Optionally, top with whipped cream or grated chocolate for an extra touch of indulgence.
