- 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
- 4 teaspoons Butter Flavor Crisco
- 1 cup buttermilk
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the vegetable shortening and Butter Flavor Crisco until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly add the buttermilk, stirring until just combined. Don’t overmix!
- Gently knead the dough on a lightly floured surface a few times until it comes together.
- Pat or roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out rounds of dough.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space for them to rise.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and fluffy.
- Brush the tops with melted butter (optional) for extra shine.
