KFC Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 4 teaspoons Butter Flavor Crisco
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the vegetable shortening and Butter Flavor Crisco until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Slowly add the buttermilk, stirring until just combined. Don’t overmix!
  5. Gently knead the dough on a lightly floured surface a few times until it comes together.
  6. Pat or roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  7. Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out rounds of dough.
  8. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space for them to rise.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and fluffy.
  10. Brush the tops with melted butter (optional) for extra shine.
  11. Let the biscuits cool slightly before digging in!
