Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cooking sherry (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, pepper, seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties.
  3. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and sherry (if using). Bring to a simmer and cook, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan, until the gravy thickens, about 3 minutes.
  8. Season with seasoned salt to taste.
  9. Return the cooked patties to the pan and heat through, about 1 minute per side.
  10. Serve the hamburger steaks with the onion gravy and enjoy!
