Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 2 pounds chicken breast, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup light or dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat sesame and canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add chicken and cook until browned and cooked through.
  3. Remove chicken and set aside. In the same skillet, add garlic and ginger, cooking for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, bourbon, and rice wine vinegar. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Mix cornstarch and water, then add to the skillet. Stir until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the chicken to the skillet, coating it well with the sauce.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Cook Notes

  • The bourbon can be omitted for a non-alcoholic version; substitute with chicken broth or apple juice.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic and ginger according to your taste preferences.
