Breton Brittle

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Ingredients

28 Dare Breton Crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
Topping
2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
1/3 to ½ cups of finely chopped pecans (or nut of choice)

Directions:
Overlap crackers in an aluminum foil lined 9 x 13 pan—4 across, 7 lengthwise. Stir butter and brown sugar constantly on medium low in a saucepan until it comes to a boil. Pour mixture slowly over the crackers. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Drop chocolate chips evenly over the crackers, and return to the oven for a couple minutes so that the chocolate chips melt. Spread the chocolate chips evenly to cover and top with chopped nuts. Cool on the counter, and then chill in the fridge. Once chilled, delicately remove the foil from the bottom and break or cut into pieces. Note: I have been making these for many years from the Jean Pare Company’s Coming for Christmas cookbook. I just add more chocolate chips and nuts, and adapted the recipe to make sure the chocolate chips melt enough on top to spread.
