Ingredients

  • 1 1⁄2 lbs beef tips
  • 2 tablespoons salad oil
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. In a large pot, heat the salad oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef tips and brown on all sides.
  2. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
  5. Mix cornstarch with 3 tablespoons of water to make a slurry. Stir into the pot to thicken the gravy.
  6. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until the gravy reaches the desired consistency.

Cook Notes

  • Adjust the seasoning to taste, and feel free to add more water if the gravy becomes too thick.
  • For a richer gravy, substitute some of the water with beef broth.

Variations

  • Mushroom Beef Gravy: Add sliced mushrooms along with the onions for an earthy flavor.
  • Spicy Beef Tips: Include a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.

Keto Version

Substitute the cornstarch with xanthan gum as a thickener and use a keto-friendly ketchup.
