Prepare Time
- Preparation Time: 15 minutes
- Cooking Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 ½ lbs. Ground beef (80/20)
- 1 ½ teaspoons burger seasoning or salt and pepper
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 4 ounces queso fresco or cheese of your choice (crumbled)
- 2 avocados (pitted and sliced)
- ½ a red onion (thinly sliced)
- 2 tomatoes (sliced)
- 3 ounces alfalfa or broccoli sprouts
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons fresh chopped herbs (such as cilantro, dill, basil, and/or chives)
- Squeeze of lemon or lime juice
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 4 hamburger buns
Directions
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates or pan.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef with burger seasoning or salt and pepper. Form into 4 patties, making a slight indent in the center of each to prevent puffing up during cooking.
- Cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer for your desired doneness.
- In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise with chopped herbs, lemon or lime juice, salt, and pepper.
- Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or skillet.
- Assemble the burgers: Spread a generous amount of the mayonnaise mixture on the bottom bun, add a beef patty, crumbled cheese, avocado slices, tomato, red onion, and sprouts. Top with the other half of the bun.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Cook Notes
The mayonnaise-herb mixture can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator to meld the flavors.
Variations
- Bacon Avocado Burger: Add crispy bacon strips for a smoky flavor.
- Spicy Avocado Burger: Incorporate sliced jalapeños or a spicy mayonnaise for a kick.
Keto Version
For a low-carb option, skip the hamburger buns and serve the burger patties on a bed of greens or wrapped in lettuce leaves.
Low-Carb Version
Similar to the keto version, using lettuce wraps instead of buns reduces the carb content, making it suitable for a low-carb diet.
